Summer is well and truly here and the entertainment season is underway! While the foods of summer are enough of a celebration on their own, you also want to create a fun summery vibe by styling up a summertime table storm. Whether dining indoors or outdoors, you can really set a wonderful mood and tone by considering how to match your table style to the food, atmosphere and season.

However, most outdoor dining tables spend their lives sitting dormant in the garden or on the balcony. This doesn’t mean that you are forced to keep your indoor and outdoor dining tables devoid of style. With just a few savvy choices, you can create a very vibrant setting at all times.

Set a seasonal centrepiece - When styling a table for the summer season, potted plants and trees make a wonderful and inspiring centrepiece that can stand in for the usual cut flowers. Don’t forget the foods of the season too - a large and decorative bowl of seasonal fruit can be both artwork and edible!

Lighting - Hurricane vases with candles are an ideal light source for the indoor or outdoor dining experience, and even when unlit they are lovely feature pieces on an empty table. You don’t have to limit yourself to the hurricane and candle alone, though, and can fill the glass with summery fruits or pebbles. Chinese lanterns strung from the trees make a fun outdoor source of lighting for evening entertaining.

Update the flatware and serving pieces - It is easy and affordable to update serving pieces and flatware with seasonal themes. Choose vibrant colours that can do most of the work of creating a theme, and add a coordinating or contrasting runner and linens to create an exciting look.

Keep in mind that summer means abundance, so don’t be shy with your table styling. Whether you are setting the table or just dressing it for decorative purposes, you can make it a piece with real impact.
